Answer the following questions on a sheet of pad paper. Refer to the section on Hypothesis Testing and Statistical Tests in your STR manual or to any appropriate reference.

What is a statistical hypothesis?
Differentiate between a null and an alternative hypothesis.
What is a test statistic?
Differentiate between a one-tailed and a two-tailed test.
Differentiate between a Type I error and a Type II error. Which is more acceptable in scientific research? Why? (Hint: Suppose the research is on the effectiveness of a certain leaf extract against pancreatic cancer. Would making a Type I or a Type II error do more harm?)
What is meant by setting the level of significance at 0.05?

Here’s the HW to facilitate our next lesson on thermoregulation as well the presentations I’ll be using for the excretory system and thermoregulation.

I’ve summarized the important concepts regarding thermoregulation onto this word file. This is also available at the first floor photocopier. Please read it and display your comprehension by creating a concept or a mind map of the ideas presented. Pictures, color-coded entries, stick figures, etc. are very welcome. Check out the Chem mind map on the right and the mind maps section of this page for some tips. This is due on Friday for Li and Sr and Monday for K.

To prepare for our next topic (Immunity), please work on the activity given below. You can download it in doc format here. Read the handout and meet with your teammates to decide on how you are going to present the topics given.

You will be presenting this on the last meeting this week, Thursday for K, Friday for Li and Sr. You may need to read the section on immunity in Campbell to help you explain the concepts better. Groups 9 and 10 are assigned to the First Line of Defense, Groups 1-4 to the Second Line of Defense, and Groups 5-8 to the Third Line of Defense.

Study smart! The exam is mostly multiple choice so do not be fooled by the tricky choices. Read each question carefully but do not overthink. ‘Wag magshotgun, gumamit ng sniper rifle.
