Effect of alcohol on blood clotting

In response to a long-ago question from Rb: Moderate consumption of alcohol can lower the amounts of fibrinogen leading to less fibrin (blood protein that forms the meshwork of the clot) and increase the ability of existing clots to break down or dissolve (fibrinolysis).
