More bonus points for recitation!

For those of you who enjoy PC-based activities, you may complete any two of these games (send a screencap of your highest score OR the ending credits of the game to my email address). You can get five reci points for completing two games.

For those inclined towards creative writing, scan through my presentations and use fifteen of my keywords or important biological terms in a short story. You can earn as much as five recitation points for a well-done tale.

Important dates and guide questions for the LT and Perio

Due to the suspensions and the school’s make-up measures, please take a look at the new set of important dates:

  • Aug 3,4,8 (WThM) – First Periodic Exam (AM sked), Bio is the last exam on Mon. NB’s with EoQR’s due.

You may opt to answer these questions for recitation credit on the day of the LT (1 correctly answered question=0.5 pt reci points). You can write the answers on a sheet of intermediate pad or email me your answers as well as any questions you may have at the email address given on the first day of class.   3. Define isotonic, hypotonic, and hypertonic solutions. What happens to an animal cell when immersed in this kind of medium? What happens to a plant cell?
  4. Differentiate between phloem and xylem in terms of structure and function.
  5. How are water and dissolved minerals transported into the roots? What role does the Casparian strip play in the transport of materials into the root xylem?
  6. Describe the root pressure transpiration-cohesion-tension mechanism by defining the associated terms and explaining how they work together in allowing water to rise in the plant.
  7. Describe the bulk or pressure flow mechanism by defining the associated terms and explaining it works to transport phloem sap from sources to sinks.
  8. Describe the following systems associated with transport in animals: a) diffusion, b) water-vascular system, c) open circulatory system, d) closed circulatory system.
